AUSTIN, TX- If you appreciate masterful finger picking, you need to pay attention to Billy Strings. It was the first time I’d ever seen or heard him play, but he certainly repped Nashville proud playing an amazing (although brief) set atop the riverboat.
The sun was pounding hard by the time Billy and his players picked up their instruments. It was sweltering; so hot, in fact, that my both my cameras malfunctioned because they had overheated. Perhaps that was the reason why Billy cut his set a few minutes short, but what I saw (and heard) during his time performing evidenced his undeniable mastery of his craft.
Even if you aren’t necessarily a fan bluegrass or roots music, I’ll guarantee you that you’ll be just as mesmerized by his musical ability like I was. The velocity at which he moved his hands was uncanny. I could only how much more excited the performance would have been if it weren’t confined to the top of a riverboat.
Steadily touring throughout the summer in support of his album Turmoil & Tinfoil, there’s still plenty of chances to see Billy bust strings off his instrument. I highly recommend that you do.
