I left Julia Holter’s set a bit early so that I could check out the hip hop group that combines a member of the Wu-Tang Clan (RZA) and Interpol (Paul Banks): Banks & Steelz. They’ve been collaborating for a few years, but just released their debut studio album, “Anything But Words”, two days before their appearance at FYF.

As I walked closer to their stage, I heard some reggae vibes emanating from their performance area. As they wrapped up that song and I got settled, they introduced the talent Donnie Trumpet to accompany them on “Love + War”. The special guests didn’t stop there, as for their performance of “Sword in the Stone” they brought on stage the NYC rapping legend Kool Keith.

“Our hip hop demands that high powered energy,” RZA growled into the mic and each of RZA and Paul brought as much hype and stage savvy as they typically do with their original groups.
