The Paranoyds Power Through Technical Issues To Slay At Air + Style THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: THE PARANOYDS @ AIR + STYLE 3/4/18
LOS ANGELES, CA- Ironically enough, some of my favorite musical performances at Air + Style didn’t happen on the two major festival stages. Rather, they happened at the sites of the sporting competitions. Newly introduced this year, local bands ripped through 30 minute sets during the Free Skate/Snow boarding competitions. One of the bands performing during a Free Snowboarding competition was The Paranoyds.
I had heard about this band a while ago as they had toured with DIIV (I think) a couple years ago. I think I never had a good listen to their music because I didn’t end up covering that DIIV tour that year … and that was stupid. This band, and their music, rocks . My bad.
Their performance at Air + Style had an inauspicious start as technical issues seemed to stall their performance, but once all of the wires and levels were fixed, this band played a raucous set filled of garage psych/punk rock with lots of attitude that, like the The Birth Defects before them, served as the perfect soundtrack to the X-treme sports happening on the slopes in front of them.
Having just released their newest EP, “Eat Their Own”, in February, I’m pretty sure that that’s the majority of what they played at Air + Style. I’m just hoping they play another local gig soon, cause I really wanna check them live again.
