The Cactus Blossoms Showed Us The “Easy Way” At Luck Check our our thoughts and photos from the The Cactus Blossom's performance At Luck Reunion
LOS ANGELES, CA- The Cactus Blossoms released their debut album Your’e Dreaming in 2016 which many have lauded as an album that was able to capture the dream nostalgia of classic Americana. Many have likened their seamless two part harmonies to the Everly Brothers. This year, they released the sophomore effort Easy Way follows the same formula and makes for a similarly enjoyable listen.
At Luck Reunion, Jack Torrey, Page Burkum and company played an intimate set in the Chapel of Willie’s Ranch. Their performance already had a long line waiting to get into the 50 capacity venue. Needless to say, there would be a few patrons who would not be able to get inside the room the enjoy the performance.
When the 6 piece band took the stage, the crowd was packed in the pews, with shoulder-to-shoulder standing room only in the back and a handful of faithfuls sitting on the floor. The Minneapolitan brothers dove into their repertoire of country tinged folk melodies and instantly set a starry-eyed, easy mood in the room. The brothers’ kinship is evident as they comfortably played off of one another, with their voices blending in tone so perfectly together that you’d have been hard pressed to even realize that there were two singers singing at any particular moment.
You’d want to compare The Cactus Blossoms to the likes of Simon & Garfunkel and the Everly Brothers, but to do so would be a disservice to the music they make. You can’t deny that their sounds and lyrics are solely their own. For their debut album, they issued a press release wherein they stated:
“Not everyone could tell what was new and what was old, and it didn’t really matter. People just seemed to enjoy it. That’s when the wheel got going and gave the illusion of spinning backwards. We weren’t born in the wrong era. We just got into some music from a different era and found a way to make it our own.”
And they have.
