Speed Of Light Proves You’re Never Too Young To Rock Hard We Are Wild Riot & The 6660s Feature Rockin' Kids At "Bands In A Barbershop"
LOS ANGELES, CA- Over the summer, the6660s has been hosting a rocking showcase in Silver Lake, CA in a muthafunkin barbershop. On the weekend I was free, I the evenings musical offerings were co-presetned by Wild Riot.On the night I went, there was on band that I particularly keen on checking out: Speed Of Light.
With many peers of mine clamoring online with surprising accolades, my expectations were high, especially with a name that recalls the heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. But I had to reasonably temper those expectation because … well … they’re kids. I don’t think two of them are even in their teens, and the oldest one maybe has a learners permit?
Speed of Light is a family rock band who say that they are inspired “by everything from The Stooges to Melvins,” and “plays garage rock with a healthy side of punk.”. I gotta say… they put on one hell of a show.
Each of the siblings were impressive on their respective instruments, and Riley, in particular, had a convincing attitude and snarl that kinda gave me some Joan Jett vibes if Joan were rougher around the edges and had a needles of punk injected into her veins.
I loved the reckless abandon that these kids played with. When they left the stage area during their set to climb onto the barbershop benches and shred their guitars amongst the crowd, I caught my self thinking, “rock and roll ain’t dead, cause there are kids like this keeping it alive.”
Obviously, they’re way too young for me, or anyone, to crown them the “next big thing”, but I’ve got a keen eye (and ears) on them. If they can rock that hard and not even been teens yet, the future of rock’s got a chance.
