Los Angeles, CA- On June 14th, 2017, I was able to catch a “new” L.A. based singer-songwriter named Saro. When I did my pre-show research, I didn’t find much on his back-story or music other that certain publications calling his music catchy and upbeat indie pop. When I saw him perform, however, I thought his music was much more than that. It was more downtempo and emo than prior reviews indicated, and I felt that the music he performed on this evening had a certain level of emotional maturity that perhaps some other publications didn’t quite catch.
That being said, his performance also effused that emotional maturity that his music required. On several occasions, it appeared as if the music itself was relentlessly tugging on his soul, as he dropped to his knees and crouched on the floor. Those moments felt genuinely authentic, and that’s what made his performance stand out in my mind.
