Echo Park, CA- There’s something magical about the musical creature named Lauren Ruth Ward. Ever since I saw her perform at The Roxy, I was instantly hooked. With a voice that some have called a “70s-Channelling mix of Janis Joplin and Courtney Barnett” and with a stage presence that’s so intensely in the moment, watching her live is an experience that I can only wish that others could enjoy. So I could I pass up the opportunity to see her live for a second time in two months.

Slotted with a late night performance after Moon Honey concluded their month long residency, fans waited for Lauren to take the stage. It was a weeknight, so I was duly surprised to see so many attendees hang to see her perform past the witching hour … and she cast everyone under her musical spell.

Her performance at The Echoplex had Lauren playing with a full band as opposed to the “stripped down” acoustic set I saw at The Roxy. It was louder. It was bigger. It was so much more baddass. With her debut album scheduled for release  soon, and an album release show set for September 29th, 2017 at the Bootleg Theater, I know where I’ll that night. If you’re in town, I highly recommend joining me as well.
