With millions of streams on Spotify and a feature from G-Eazy on a remix of “Eleven:11” aka “Got It Like That”, Pell seems to be making waves in the ocean that is the music industry. He’s been around for a while, releasing his debut album “Floating While Dreaming” back in 2014, and tirelessly working since then, releasing soulful singles and hard-hitting raps like “Show Out” and “All in a Day’s Work”. I remember coming across “Cafe Du Monde” from the his sophomore album in 2015 on SoundCloud and instantly being intrigued. It was something so different and memorable, I thought I’d keep my eyes peeled for more of his work. One of my favorite tracks is still “SC2014” from his first album as it completely embodies the mellow mind state he vows to inspire his listeners with. But despite being a listener for this long, I hadn’t seen him perform.

The soulful New Orleans rapper kicked off his Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days in LA set with groovy sounds and ebullience. Pell was a total surprise. I hadn’t expected him to jump from genre to genre as much as he did. The improbable spontaneity of it all made the experience all the better. The band adding live elements, especially in the performance of “Queso” where Pell asked the audience to help repeat his chants in the chorus, made the set extra special and inviting. “Pell yeah!” we all shouted throughout the night, feeling his energy and love for the craft.
