Santa Monica, CA- Headlining the Santa Monica Pier’s “Twilight Concerts” Latin night was the enigmatic Chilean recording artist  Mon Laferte. Mon Laferte (nee Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte) musical style is a mash-up various musical stylings given her fans a modern twist on Mexican-styled bolero with a commanding voice and an impressive stage presence.

Stepping on stage in a flowered skirt, with red gloves, her bodied adorned in pin-up tattoo, she confidently took her place front and center with a gold microphone in hand. Joined by her band, including a three-piece horn section, all were suited up to back the diva and help her deliver a sensational performance.  

From brooding blues to a mix of indie pop-rock that takes the audience on a deliberate ride through many ups and downs, Mon Laferte performed a career-spanning set had the entire pier swaying to her rhythms.

Originally from Chile, Mon Laferte moved to Mexico City in 2017 to continue her career, focusing on her own songwriting and music.  She has since recorded four albums.  Her latest album “La Trenza”, released earlier this year, included collaborations with veteran musicians in the Latin rock scene, Enrique Bunbury and Juanes.  

For 33 years, the Twilight Concert Series has offered a weekly showcase during the summer months of eclectic music informed by diverse stylistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Mon Laferte fulfilled the promise by delivering a show that did not disappoint.  With her Latin melodies filling the ocean air, accompanied by a beachfront backdrop, this performance in Santa Monica was a memorable one.
