Jamie Kent Hosts Another Successful New Nashville Riverboat Showcase During SXSW HOMEPAGE: JAMIE KENT'S NEW NASHVILLE RIVERBOAT SHOWCASE 3/16/18
AUSTIN, TX- For the second year in a row, Blurred Culture was able to hang with our friend, and amazing musician, Jamie Kent in Austin … on a riverboat … with free booze … and great music.
In what has become a SXSW tradition, Jamie curates and hosts two riverboat showcases (one in the afternoon and one in the evening) that travels the ways of Lady Bird Lake. As guests enjoy the natural beauty of the city of Austin, the diverse music hand-picked by Jamie tickles the ear. This year, we were only able to attend this day-time showcase, but we were able to witness the amazing talents of not only Jamie, but also Billy Strings, Waker, Emma White, Nellen Dryden, Truett and Melody Guy.
With over 1,300 RSVPs for the 130 spots on the boat, there were going to be plenty of disappointed fan left behind at the dock. Clearly, Austinites in the know would arrive early to ensure their being able to board the vessel, and by the time I arrived an hour early to prepare to photograph and cover the event, a capacity line was already waiting to board.
Their dedication, and patience, would be well worth it though. As soon as they set foot onto the boat, bartenders were ready and willing to serve complimentary alcoholic beverages provided by Magic Hat Brewery. All the guests were warmly greeted by Uomo Di Pace (translation: “the man of peace”) who was one of the sponsors of the days two showcases and were able to hear his message of keeping the cycle going of spreading love around.
For a riverboat, the sound system was superb. It just so happened that the sound was provided Bose Professional, and it was a good thing that a high-end, reliable sound company was in charge of making everybody sound so good. The bright Texas sun wreaked havoc on certain mechanical equipment (i.e. my camera gear overheated), but the elements were no match for Bose’s speaker system. The entire afternoon’s musical offerings sounded exquisite, and performed without any technical difficulties.
I can think of no better way to spend an afternoon that to float down a river on a boat with a cold, free beer and great music surrounded by like minded people who only want to have a relaxing day on the water. And as long as you got there early enough, you were lucky enough enjoy in the festivities.
