Hollywood, CA- The word “prodigy” is defined as “a person, especially a young one, endowed with exceptional qualities or abilities. Would an 20 year old who has already released 3 albums, whose skills remind you of a mix of Orianthi and Nancy Wilson, and whose soul is reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt, count? I certainly think so.

Hannah Wicklund has been playing instruments and performing live all her young life. A truly gifted kid in all respects, she graduated from high school at age 16 and by that time had already played over 1000 shows. Her performance at The Viper Room marked her “L.A. debut”, and she wowed the crowd with her otherworldly skills on the axe.

It was remarkable to watch her get lost in her guitar solos. With her eyes closed, and her brow furrowed, you could literally see the focus on her face. It was if she was visualizing the music in her head before she made the magic come out of her quickly moving fingers.

Needless to say, given her youth, she’s still got some time to develop and focus her sound, but I’ll be damned … based on what I heard and saw on this night, this girl has a serious head start on 99% of artists trying to make it in the music business … regardless of age. She’s a prodigy, indeed.

Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin Stones will be touring Europe this fall. If you happen to be in one of the cities she will be performing in, I highly suggest you buy a ticket.
