Glaare’s Rachael Pierce Raised The Intensity At The Moroccan Lounge THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: GLAARE @ MOROCCAN LOUNGE 4/17/18
LOS ANGELES, CA- The last time I saw Glaare perform live was when they were kicking off a west coast tour in January at Resident. The performance also came on the heels of the death of their lead singer’s (Rachael Pierce) father. Needless to say it was a powerfully intimate and emotional performance.
Time tends to mend wounds, both physical and emotional, and I was keen on catching Glaare perform again after the passage of the same. I was expecting another powerful performance, and I got one, but this performance definitely felt more kinetic. There was an energy that rolled itself out slowly with every dark wave beat and riff that pulsed and shred.
I’m not sure whether it was an intentional move or not, but I noticed, and loved, how over the course of the performance Rachael subtly shed layers of clothing. First it was her winter cap, then her jacket, until she was performing in her sports top revealing the prominent tattoos that adorned her body. That subtle visual evolution added a sense of tension and heat to the already visceral performance.
The look in Rachael’s eyes as she stared into the audience was fierce and assertive. It didn’t seem or feel like there was anything holding her back- nothing weighing on her shoulders- as it appeared like she simply allowed the music to completely consume both the venue and her soul.
