Hollywood, CA- The first thing that caught my attention was her eyes … her epically smoldering eyes. My friend, and fellow contributor, Cortney Armitage, had posted a photo on Instagram and I was instantly intrigued. Now, knowing that Cortney’s taste in music is pretty stellar, I decided to find Fiona’s music on the Internet to see if it jibed with the look that had become ingrained in my mind. Yup.

When Cortney let me know that Fiona would be in my neck of the woods- Los Angeles- for a couple of weeks, I made it a point to catch her perform at some point during her stay. Luckily, the scheduling/work gods opened up Wednesday, August 9th for me and I got to catch Fiona perform an intimate, stripped down set for The Standard Hotel’s “Desert Nights” summer concert series.

Hosted by KCRW DJ Valida, accompanied by Guy Fiumarelli on the electric guitar, and introduced by none other than the “Mayor of Sunset” himself (Rodney Bingenheimer), Fiona’s live performance embodied everything I imagined it would. Equal parts sass and sensuality, with sprinkles of mischievousness and cheerfulness, her persona in front of an audience was nothing but entrancing. Her aura, and music, had a “classic” quality to it, and with every note and every move, I found myself getting lost in the mood and music that she was serving to those in attendance.

I would have loved to have caught her performance a week later with a full band, but I guess good things will just have to come to those who wait. I’ll be waiting.
