F*ck The Haters, Papa Roach Kicks Ass REVIEW+PHOTOS: PAPA ROACH @ PETERSON EVENTS CENTER 3/17/18
PITTSBURGH, PA- One of the acts opening as direct support for A Day To Remember at the Peterson Events Center was Papa Roach. After hyped performances by Falling In Reverse and The Devil Wear Prada, Papa Roach took the stage and delivered a performance that exceeded my own expectations.
As the lights went out and Papa Roach’s classic “Fuck, Papa Roach” announcement blasted over the speakers, a huge banner hiding above th the stage dropped and front man Jacoby Shaddix came barreling out with the rest of the band. They raged into their opener, “Crooked Teeth”, and continued with a set list that consisted of songs from their entire arsenal of albums old and new.
Papa Roach’s raw energy and stage presence was, in my mind, the prime example of what a direct opening band should be in a stadium setting. Also, it helped immensely that they had amazing stage production that really added to the excitement of documenting and watching their performance. Inciting mosh pits and the infamous “wall of death” throughout their 45 minute set, the most wild part for me personally, was when Shaddix hopped off stage and ran through the crowd.
Singing along with fans and jumping through the crowd, it was amazing to see how one man alone could pump up an entire stadium. By the time they finished their performance, they departed the stage to a tumultuous eruption of cheers from the crowd. As the production team began to prepare the stage for A Day To Remember’s performance, the air was alive with crackling energy from the stands and ground floor from Papa Roach’s performance. People were moshing hard to the playlist playing over the speakers and forming dance circles to everyone’s favorite ’90’s party jam, “Jump Around”, as it blasted throughout the stadium. Needless to say, Papa Roach got everybody adequately lubricated for the glorious chaos that would ensue.
