Jay Som Closed Out Girlschool 2018 With A Spirited Dream Pop Performance REVIEW+PHOTOS: JAY SOM @ GIRLSCHOOL 2/4/18
LOS ANGELES, CA- When I saw Jay Som perform at Music Tastes Good, I thought it was a decent performance. Even though it was an early afternoon set, and they had to deal with a few technical issues, I still appreciated their dreamy pop-rock. At Girlschool, however, I enjoyed their performance ten-fold.
Perhaps it was the more intimate setting, but I felt that Melanie Duterte’s performance was much more free spirited and comfortable at The Bootleg. Melanie seemed to interact with the crowd more openly, smiling and joking with her bandmates … doing the little things that make a performance that much more enjoyable and authentic. Jay Som’s performance for Girlschool also felt much more dynamic, and I think the stage production/lighting (which was absolutely fabulous for each act of both stages) had a lot to do with that.
Just days prior to her performance at Girlschool, Jaysom released through Amazon Music a lovely new track called “Hot Bread”
With opening slot gigs with Japanese Breakfast throughout this month, and some pretty big festival dates coming up later in the year (Primavera Sound and Panorama Music), I have a feeling that Jay Som’s performances will only get better and better.
