ComplexCon Takes Over the LBC Once Again REVIEW+PHOTOS: COMPLEXCON @ LONG BEACH CONVENTION CENTER 11/4/17 - 11/5/17
Long Beach, CA- For its second year, ComplexCon has brought the internet to life by celebrating art, music, and fashion. Thousands came from across the globe arrived dressed in their freshest fits ready to cop all the new and exclusive drops. Some gates were forced open by the public and people ran to lines which were already wrapping around each booth.
Leading brands like Puma, Nike, and Adidas build extravagant booths showcasing both classic and new pieces. Puma’s installation encouraged creative photographers, designers, and musicians to pitch their work for a chance to collaborate with the company. Nike’s interactive lab allowed for a chance to create a customize air force in real time. Adidas had hidden gum-balls throughout the convention where you could win a shirt, pin or shoes. I won a cool N.E.R.D. pin.
ComplexCon uniquely combines the merchandise and hustle with the establishment of ‘Complex (Con)versations.’ Handpicked panels of movers and shakers in specific industries to inspire young entrepreneurs with their knowledge. Despite some schedules being off and long lines building up, we made it into “Drop Science” a talk about the science of dropping new gear and “What Is Money? Currency and Crypto-Currency” where we joined Mark Ecko learn more about the future of money with tech prodigy Iddris Sandu, rapper Nipsey Hussle and more. Having a seat at these tables are vital to helping educate the youth on real-world discussions.
As you walked through Long Beach Convention Center live music blasted in the background from the Pigeons and Planes stage including performances by A$AP Ferg, A-Trak, NoName, DJ Khaled and much more. However, the highly anticipated performance was at the ComplexCon Arena where N.E.R.D presented their new album and performed their new track “Lemon” feat. Rihanna.
Second-day goers were met with surprise exclusive interviews with Kobe Bryant and Kendrick Lamar. Complex (Con)versations continued with dope panels about leading ladies in multimedia and the generation gap between hip-hop. NoName, DRAM, DJ Khaled and more took to the pigeons and planes stage. Off-White x Air Jordan 1 was named Sneaker of the Year and Gucci Mane finished the weekend off with a guest performance from Migos.
ComplexCon blew up compared to last year with big brands investing in more creative booths and larger crowds sprinting to stand in line. The overwhelming hype had people jampacked between aisles but it was worth it when you caught a glimpse of your favorite artists, like when we ran into Big Sean and Pusha T shopping around. Despite the much-anticipated crowd, the event was dope and definitely gives a glimpse into what the future has to hold.
