Bedouine’s Calming Folk Soothed At Spacebomb Record’s SXSW Showcase Be Sure To Keep An Eye Out For Her New Album Due Out June 21st
AUSTIN, TX- An artist that I’ve had my eye one for a while is the L.A. based singer/songwriter Azniv Korkejian p/k/a “Bedouine”. I have playlists that I play when I go to sleep. At some point, a friend of mine suggested that I might find a track or two off of Bedouine’s self-titled, debut album that I could add to my “sleepy time” playlist. I’ve had her song “Dusty Eyes” sing me to sleep on more than one occasion.
I hadn’t planned on catching Bedouine in Austin. After all, she’s based out of Echo Park, and I figured that the odds were good that I’d be able to catch her perform a local gig sooner rather than later. As chance would have it, she was on the bill for Spacebomb Records’ showcase for another band that I wanted to check out.
I walked into the venue about half way through her set, but Bedouine enchanted me instantly. Her soothing alto is as silky live as it is on her records. Her presence on stage was equally as calming. As she dexterously plucked away at her guitar, and sang her wonderfully folksy melodies that harkened back to the golden age of folk circa 65-75, I was gladly appreciative that I had stumbled upon her performance in this instant.
She performed some music that I wasn’t familiar with, but as I’ve learned since this performance, Bedouine’s new album is scheduled to release on Friday, June 21st, so she was mostly likely giving her new songs a go. On April 24, 2019 she released a 3 song EP titled Echo Park, the titled track of which has some series Joni Mitchell vibes.
She plans on releasing another single prior to her album’s release and she’ll also be performing album release shows in New York and Los Angeles on June 6th and June 13th respectively. Odd are good that she’ll be scheduling a tour in support of her album, but if you are NYC or LA based, I highly recommend checking her out. Don’t be like me and put it off.
