Isaiah Rashad the TDE rapper from Chattanooga, Tennessee took the stage of the
Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 30 Days in LA with the swagger and confidence of a veteran artist.
Mansionair & Sampa The Great had already blessed the crowd with dope sets and the energy was infectious. Isaiah wasn’t always rocking stages in LA, he didn’t began taking rapping seriously till the tenth grade. He spent the next few years recording at local recording studios in Chattanooga. His first big break would be touring with rappers Juicy J, Joey Badass and Smoke DZA among others, on the 2012 Smoker’s Club Tour. He is also a founding member of the Chattanooga hip hop collective The House along with fellow Chattanooga rapper TUT and a member of the Chicago hip hop collective The Village along with artist Kembe X, Alex Wiley and more. In March 2013, Rashad signed to Carson, California-based independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment home to Kendrick Lamar and School Boy Q. Shortly after signing he released Cilvia Demo, his first extended play, via digital distribution. Cilvia Demo was met with widespread acclaim from music critics and debuted at number 40 on the US Billboard 200. Off the buzz from the release of the EP, Rashad was named to the 2014 XXLfreshman class. On September 2, 2016, he released his debut studio album, The Sun’s Tirade, to widespread critical acclaim. The album peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200.
His early success and his signing to one of the most prolific hip hop labels may explain his poise and mastery of the stage. As I sipped my Hendricks Gin and the Kush began to take hold of me I realized I was watching someone who was a student of the art that is Hip Hop. I was watching a Nas fan, a MC that looked up to Rakim and who spit to a Premo beat, someone who listened to Outkast and dreamed of battling Eminem. There is no doubt why TDE signed this young man and why many are calling him the next Kendrick Lamar… In a time of mumble rap and soulless lyrics Rashad’s words were delivered clearly and poetically to a crowd reciting every lyric. The power of the rising TDE star could be felt and it was clear to see that he is truly next…..
