When 12 Russians say you’re drunk, you lie down—as if Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 has been known to follow old-world maxims. It took a very real near-death experience to sober him up; and perhaps thanks in part to the will of the Rock Gods, he and Sum 41 are back and better than ever.

Sum 41 @ House of Blues San Diego 11/5/16. Setlist.Their 2016 tour climaxes with the release of their 7th studio album ’13 Voices’. A progressive and appropriate follow up to 2011’s ‘Screaming Bloody Murder’; and with the return of Dave ‘Brown Sound’ Baksh, their musicianship sends reminiscence into the ears of fans everywhere.

Sum 41 took the stage in San Diego last night to a humble and sold-out venue known as the House of Blues. The energy was palpable; for the crowd was ready, and the band was ready to deliver with due showmanship. It was splendid to see the fans embrace the new numbers as much as the legacy ones. From the very first song on their very first record ‘Grab the Devil…’ to their latest single ‘God Save Us All’, the Sums delivered a fantastic set-list dedicatedly and passionately to their fans, those both experienced and virginal to their music and live performances. Encompassing and confident was their performance; tried and true was their fellowship. The band remains as charismatic as ever.

As Sum 41 closes their tour climactically with their new brilliantly sincere album, it wouldn’t be irresponsible to assume that with this new release and their still arresting on-stage charisma, the Sums will be bringing us more memories and more music for esteemed years to come.
