RECAP: When a group beats out the likes of Avicci and Swedish House Mafia for a Swedish Grammy award, you make it a point to see them live. Rebecca & Fiona are the electronic dance duo who won Swedish Grammy’s in 2011 and 2015 for best “Electronic/Dance Album”, beating their global heavyweight counterparts, and wow … they impressed us at Stockholm, CA.
They produce their own music, but they did not hide behind DJ consoles onstage. Rather, they had band member play their music for them, as they confidently strutted across the stage with singing their songs. You could tell how at ease they were on stage. With a mic in one hand and a Swedish beer in the other, each of the girls playfully played off of each other, the crowd and their bandmates to create an intimate vibe during their performance. In one instant, one of the girls fed their guitarist sips from her own beer as he jammed out a solo.
It was the first time I had truly listened to their music, but I understood why they’ve earned so many accolades. Their music is catchy and is most likely to induce one to dance uncontrollably. They’ve got the strong qualities of other popular female duos like Icona Pop, Tegan and Sara, and Krewella, which alone can surely grow their stateside fan numbers up, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that each of Rebecca & Fiona are easy on the eyes.
They’ve made regular Vegas club appearances, in the past, but I think once they start the U.S. tour circuit (they’re currently only scheduled for Swedish gigs for the rest of the year), I have a feeling that they’ll be pulling in fans in droves.
