LOS ANGELES, CA- If you are looking for a new pop music muse, I think you’ll be quite satisfied with Ralphy. This was my first time catching Ralphy perform live, and this singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia has certainly got the goods. Her performance at the Echo was quite impressionable. Filled with dynamic energy, choreographed moves, multiple costume changes, and – most importantly- catchy, toe-tapping, songs, Ralphy gave about as much as any performer can give in a 30-40 minute set. I was impressed.
If I had to guess, I’d put five on it that Ralphy has had some training in movement or the stage. There was a certain way that Ralphy carried herself on stage that showed a professional confidence that really makes performances that much more engaging. Hitting choreographed moves/poses during certain lyrics and instrumental breaks really gives the music that little extra something, and Ralphy seemed to hit all of those moments. I think many artists, especially emerging artists, overlook how much stage presence can enhance their music. Ralphy has that knowledge in spades, and uses that knowledge to give her pop-music that little extra flare that made a strong first impression on me.
