AUSTIN, TX- For most of our SXSW artist coverage, we’ll keep it relatively short and sweet. We have over 80 artists to cover, so cut us some slack! 😉 We’ll basically be formatting each post into two parts: (1) Why our contributor wanted to see this act and (2) what our contributor thought of the performance”. Easy peasy. If you want to learn more about the act, make sure you click through to their social media links to get in the know. You won’t be disappointed!

Why I Wanted To See Rachel K Collier: Rachel K Collier is a singer/producer who comes form Swansea, Wales. Though I wasn’t familiar with her music prior to SXSW, I learned that she recording music since 2012, achieving regional success with the her single “Hard Road To Travel” in 2012 and her 2013 collaboration with Ray Foxx “Boom Boom (Heartbeat)” (which climbed the UK Singles chart to #12 and the #2 on the UK Dance Singles chart.
Earlier this year, Rachel released her latest single, “Darkshade”. While I may not be the biggest advocate of dance/house music, I did enjoy this track. The gradual build up to the beat drops and the svelte vocal production of Rachel’s airy tones were particularly well done.
What I Thought Of Rachel K Collier’s Performance: I thought Rachel’s energy was irresistible. When the tempo of her music picked up, you were hard pressed not to want to dance along to it, especially when Rachel stepped away from her production decks to sing and dance at the front of the stage. It was just a little bit of a shame that the stage in the venue, and the venue itself, was so compact as I’m sure that had there been more room, Rachel and the crowd probably could have- and would have- bust some nice big moves during an instrumental break.
Rachel’s vocal ability live was particularly good. I’m often times surprised when producers of house, or any other electronic dance genre of music, can multitask and do something other punch buttons. I aways appreciate a concert more when backing vocal tracks aren’t used (I was extremely bored during a Zedd performance earlier in the year … Zedd doesn’t do much on stage) and clearly Rachel had no use for them as she can wail all on her own.
