LOS ANGELES, CA- The Pierce The Veil I Can’t Hear You World Tour closed out concert season at Ruoff Music Center this past Saturday. Fans sat and waited in anticipation to see if the show was even going to happen. After two hours of constant downpour and lightning, the skies began to rumble a little less, and doors finally opened.
Pierce The Veil is currently on their second leg of the tour with Like Roses, Ecca Vandal, and Health. Although the weather was miserable, that didn’t stop fans from screaming every word, their voices echoing against the soaked amphitheater as if defying the storm itself.
This tour was super special for fans that have been there from the beginning and even fans that have just discovered them. Pierce The Veil started their journey 18 years ago, and this tour was an encapsulation of all their albums in one night. They played songs off their very first album, such as “Yeah Boy and Doll Face,” all the way up to their newest album with “Emergency Contact.” I cannot express how unbelievably excited I was to be taking photos of two of my favorite songs of theirs, “Bulls In The Bronx” and “Pass The Nirvana.” Songs that came out 13 years apart but have had an impact on my life as if I am growing up with them, which is the reality. Each lyric felt like a timestamp on the years gone by, a reminder of how music can stretch across time and memory, tethering moments together with sound.
I discovered PTV as a little middle school girl who was just trying to figure out how to put eyeliner on for the first time. I believe my pipeline of finding them was through Sleeping With Sirens and their absolutely iconic song together, “King For A Day.” It’s basic, and I am painfully aware of it, but did 25-year-old me cry when Kellin came out on stage at When We Were Young Fest in their suits to sing that song with Vic in 2022? Yes, yes I did.
And I stood at this show crying to “Hold On Till May” as well. PTV has such a dynamic catalog of music that has been a reflection of changes in my life and so many others. They have a die-hard fan base because of this. Their music is ever-evolving, and as we the fans grow up and go through the difficult stages of life, PTV has been there, a constant voice in the chaos. Their songs carry a strange kind of comfort—an understanding that even heartbreak and confusion can sound beautiful when shouted into the night.
When I saw this tour was coming to Indiana, I knew I couldn’t miss it. As always, PTV put on a performance of a lifetime. I think one of my favorite parts of seeing them is just how impressive Vic’s vocals are. He sounds EXACTLY like the album, if not even better.
The band as a whole just puts so much love and attention into every performance. Jamie has the most energy I have ever seen in a bass guitarist, Tony shreds his guitar across the stage, and Loniel murders the drums every single night. Even in the rain, the crowd and community that they have created and brought under one roof had an amazing Saturday with a band they love dearly. For a few hours, the thunder outside was no match for the thunder inside—pure, unfiltered, and alive.
