HOLLYWOOD, CA — As mental health has been rising in conversation amongst entertainers, teens, young adults, and the nation, more efforts have been made in order to make mental health as common and important a conversation as physical health. As an advocate for mental health awareness herself, singer-songwriter Noah Cyrus joined Urban Outfitters and the Crystal Campaign on Saturday night to release her Lonely Collection with a special intimate acoustic performance and live Q&A with family, friends, and fans at Space15Twenty in Hollywood, California.
Hosted by popular radio music host Zach Sang, the night opened with an introduction to mental health awareness and the Jed Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a mission to protect emotional health and prevent suicide for the nation’s teens and young adults.
Noah Cyrus, who has been very vocal about her own experiences with mental health, weaves those issues into her music. Her exclusive apparel collection perfectly ties together mental health and her music.
As fans lined up to see Noah hours before the show, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter expressed her gratitude for those who came early and shared their stories of struggle during her live Q&A.
She opened with a stripped-down piano version of “July” and “Live or Die.” In tandem with the release of her newest single “Lonely,” she closed her three-song set with a live performance of the song, where she openly talked about her struggles with being lonely, missing her family, and the winding mental chaos that happens with adolescence.
As someone who has grown up in a famous family (father country artist Billy Ray Cyrus and older sister, pop artist, and actress Miley Cyrus), Noah seemed to really strike a chord with her mostly young, female fans. She talked about her ways of coping with feelings of anxiety (meditation exercises and incorporating the “breathe for 7, hold for 8, out for 10” breathing exercise). She shouted out her mom Trish Cyrus, who was in attendance, and, most importantly, she was happy to hug and support fans who raised concerns about going to college and not being vocal about their feelings with family and friends.
The Lonely collection includes a Heal black agate pendant necklace and Lonely black agate hoodie, which can be found and purchased at crystalcampaign.com.
Space15Twenty, the first concept store from Urban Outfitters, seeks to provide an intimate space for guests to discover artists and experience the city in a whole new way. The major retail brand strives to collaborate with brands and artists they deem inspiring and interesting — and Noah’s release of her exclusive apparel collection was the perfect fit.
Noah will donate 100% of the proceeds made from the Lonely Collection to the Jed Foundation, which protects emotional health and prevents suicide for the nation’s teens and young adults.
