ECHO PARK, CA- Miya Folick. All I can say is, “Damn … that gal was fierce.” I really didn’t know too much about her or her music, but I think it’s safe to say that I was pretty blown away with her performance opening for Moon Honey at The Echoplex on June 26, 2017.
This demure and seemingly soft-spoken women took the stage with her band and started her set with an intense mellow that continued to simmer until it full on hit a boil at its climax. I wish I was more familiar with her music because I don’t know what song it was, but there was a moment during her performance when she growled out lyrics and melodies with such a ferocious intensity that the hairs on my hairless asian arms stood up. It was at that moment when my brain just kind of shut down, and I was forced into a mesmerized state of, “Holy, sh%t. This is f’ing awesome.”
I still don’t know that much about her or which direction she’ll be taking her music going forward, but I’ve been listening to what she has streaming online, and with every listen, I’ve just been kinda fantasizing about what she’s got up her sleeve, and I can’t wait to hear what she’s got in store for us next.
