Long Beach, CA- One of the up-and-coming bands I was able to check out at Music Tastes Good was an indie-slacker rock band from Ypsilanti, Michigan named Minihorse. I didn’t know too much about this band before catching them at the festival- other than they were a band named Minihorse and they came from Michigan, but their short 30 minute performance gave me a good reason to keep an eye out for them.
As soon as they started their set, I started getting some Pavement and Built to Spill (who played later in the day) feels, and that ain’t a bad thing. Solid slacker rock with really catchy pop melodies. Based on some online sleuthing trying to find more info about them, I found that at present, they only have one official EP out titled “Big Lack” that was released last year. BUT, I also found a their Soundcloud posts of covers they did of other Music Tastes Good artists, and I gotta say, I was thoroughly impressed.
I loved the way they put their own musical spin on some of these killer tracks. It’s kind of proof positive that these guys know which direction they want to head in musically, and more than enough of a reason for me to keep an eye on them for future original music.
