LOS ANGELES, CA- The first band that I was able to catch on stage at Girlschool was the indie-electronic band Lesser Pieces. This duo consists of multi-instrumentalist/producer Mike Slott and singer/songwriter Diane Badie. Having collaborated with each other during writing sessions for their respective solo projects, the music they created caught the attention of some established ears in the music industry, leading them them to combine forces to form Lesser Pieces.
I absolutely loved the vibe of their music. Diane’s lush alto vocals are particularly soothing which serves as the perfect compliment to the subtly active instrumentation that Mike plays. I’m all about hooks, and the music that Lesser Pieces performed during their short 30 minutes set had melodies that I found myself humming along to after they left the stage (the melody of the “only time” chorus of “Texas” was catchy as hell).
In my humble opinion, their electronic pop shows tremendous potential. Filled with lovely sonics, drenched with clear emotional messages that walk the delicate line of sensuality and purity, I’m eager to hear what this duo has in store for 2018. The six songs on Spotify just isn’t enough for me.
