Leon Else’s name is intriguing enough, but once he opens his mouth and belts out several notes, your eyes are quickly plastered onto the UK import. Else’s brand of synth pop and deep brooding vocals quickly cast a spotlight on the crooner and soon after he received numerous comparisons to another beloved British act, Sam Smith.

Leon was one of the first few artists on the main stage to kick off the last day of pride festivities Sunday afternoon. During his set he mentioned this year was his first ever pride experience due to his long years battling with self-acceptance. At one point, he began to tear up when explaining his struggles and the meaning behind his latest single “What I Won’t Do”.

Leon’s impressive vocal range and coupled with his superb sense of rhythm (as seen showcased in his music video for “Dance”) gives sign of a rising star. He was welcomed with open arms at LA Pride and it’s safe to say this pride celebration certainly won’t be his last.
