LOS ANGELES, CA- Common Souls. You might not have heard of them before but you definitely wish you did. Composing of Ryan Yoo and Nick Velez, the “two friends from UCLA” have come together and have officially decided to make music their thing.

In 2018, the two friends had originally decided that they only wanted to put out one or two dance/electronic songs, just for fun. But now, thankfully, they’ve decided they want to do this seriously. Excited for what’s to come, Common Souls will opening for Run River North on a number of their scheduled tour dates.

Their first performance back was at The Moroccan Lounge in LA, kicking off the month long Run River North tour. Ryan shocked everyone with his comically transparent lyrics, renditions of Rihanna, and versatile sound.

Transitioning from punk to soul, Common Souls’ authentic character showed through into their music. Not to be confused with a side character, during the performance Nick Velez had been hoping from one instrument to another. Nick’s musicality was incredible and mesmerizing. These two friends from UCLA proved truly a dynamic duo in terms of lyricism, composition, and even personality.

Common Souls and Run River North share a very close relationship. Guitarist and vocalist in Run River North, Daniel Chae, had actually been close friends of Ryan Yoo and Nick Velez. Daniel encouraged the two to take music seriously and eventually became Common Souls’ manager, helping them during the developmental stage. Thanks Daniel!

We can all look forward to new music from Common Souls by the end of May, while they’re still on tour with Run River North! Some of which had the crowd at The Moroccan Lounge begging for more. Needless to say, we’re excited.
