LOS ANGELES, CA- Breaking into top 40 Radio is no easy feat; especially for foreign-born artists. It wasn’t until BTS dropped their single “Dynamite” that they finally got their first Top 40 radio hit … but they did it with the backing of a huge corporate juggernaut: Sony Music. How amazing then is it that a 23-year old South Korean female artist did it independently? I mean, what are the odds of something like that happening?
BIBI, an artist who we were able to see perform earlier this year at 88rising’s Head In The Clouds Festival, was able to achieve the feat with her single “The Weekend”, which was originally released on the compilation album “Head In The Clouds 3”. Propelled by her legion of dedicated fans calling in requests for the song to get played, and also her substantial exposure through her “Fun Mode” partnership with Samsung, “The Weekend” found substantial adds across virtually all music platforms, finding placement on numerous curated streaming playlists and even being recognized as one of Apple Music Korea’s top songs of 2021.
As a Korean myself, I find great pride in this achievement and believe BIBI’s potential is limitless. 축하해, 비비!
