LOS ANGELES, CA- I love a good comeback story—and Kiesza’s is one I’ve been rooted for over past year. From topping global charts to enduring a devastating car crash, she’s had every reason to disappear. But instead, she’s reemerged with more power, more clarity, and now, with “Stays In Bed,” a bold new vision of what her artistry can be.

Having already seen her perform twice since last year, this next evolution—the sexy, intimate pivot into female-driven house—is pushing all the right buttons for me. If this single is any indication, her live show is about to get a lot more layered.

Out now via independent release and co-produced by UK bassline phenom Sammy Virji and rising alt-pop producer Jess Cake, “Stays In Bed” is the first taste of Dancing and Crying: Vol. 2—a project that marks Kiesza’s unapologetic embrace of her sensual side. And it’s not subtle.

Gone are the retro silhouettes and high-speed spins of “Hideaway.” In their place: a slow-burning, sweat-glossed groove that doesn’t ask for your attention—it commands it. “I wanna get you dirty / I wanna bend and stretch / I wanna get you working / Let me relieve your stress,” Kiesza teases with breathy conviction. It’s direct. It’s bold. But it’s also entirely her own.

Kiesza has always danced with joy, but now she dances with intention. This isn’t about shock value—it’s about self-expression, unfiltered. “It’s my sensuality that quietly fuels my creative fire,” she shares. “Working with Jess Cake and Sammy Virji on ‘Stays in Bed’ cracked something open. And once it opened, there was no going back.”

That cracked-open space becomes the sonic heart of the track. Virji—fresh off a career-defining Coachella set—lays down a warm, minimal house beat that thumps without overwhelming. Jess Cake adds her alt-pop textures, giving the track a subtle, hypnotic edge. Kiesza’s voice moves through it like smoke: soft, seductive, totally in control.

Her history gives this moment extra weight. After her 2014 breakout hit “Hideaway” (and a wildly ambitious one-shot video that topped year-end lists), she seemed unstoppable. But a life-changing accident forced her off the stage for two long years. That she returned at all is remarkable. That she returned with 2024’s Dancing and Crying: Vol. 1—and a chart-topping dance single in “I Go Dance”—is testament to her creative resilience.

And now, with Vol. 2 on the way and a co-headlining tour with Bonnie McKee in motion, Kiesza isn’t chasing old highs—she’s writing a new rulebook. “Stays In Bed” is less about provocation and more about revelation. She’s showing us who she’s always been underneath the choreography and kaleidoscope colors.

This is a different kind of movement. And I can’t wait to see where she takes it next. Follow Kiesza on Facebook, X, and Instagram
