ALLSTON, MA- On Thursday March 15, 2018 Good Old War played before a near capacity crowd of eager folk fans at the Brighton Music Hall, Allston MA. Also, on the nights ticket singer songwriter Justin Nozuka and River Matthews. Sharing the stage and co-headlining this tour was Canadian – American folk artist Justin Nozuka. Justin is touring in support of his latest EP “Low Tide” which dropped this past Feb via Glassnote Records.
Seeing the crowd reaction when Justin took the stage caught me off guard, and it was rather evident many were there for him. From the first chord of the first song the crowd seemed to be in his control, swept away by his melodramatic soulful sound. His slow rhythmic guitar and sensual vocals forcing the crowd to pay attention as he moved through his set.
Justin played a mixture of old and new with the crowd clearly favoring the old. Justin had a rather muted stage presence with little banter in between songs, choosing instead to focus on his music. Justin’s vocals complemented his instrumentals with a combination of falsetto and a cappella that was truly uplifting, the crowd often singing along. Justin quietly left the stage after his set clearly leaving the crowd longing for more.
