ECHO PARK, CA- When I saw the line-up for Swimm’s Love You Down Fest, I had a brief moment of deja vu when I read the band name “Talk In Tongues”. It took me a while to figure it out, but I actually have one of their songs in my massive iTunes library:
I couldn’t recall how that track ended up in my music collection, but I’m glad to find them again.
Their music is soothing blend of psychedelia, shoegaze and pop that leans more towards the pop genre with their catchy dreamy melodies. Even when the tempo and timbre is more frenetic and the distorted psychedelic guitar work ramps up, there’s something about their lead singer’s tenor voice, especially when he goes into his falsetto and his bandmates harmonize with him, that really makes the music extremely listenable.
Their live performance was good, however I feel like the dark stage lighting did not serve them well. This was an instance where hardly being able to see them made their music feel darker than it actually was. Don’t get me wrong, I thought they sounded great … but like I suggest above, I feel like they’re more pop than shoegaze, and I just felt like the lighting should have matched. #JustMyTwoCents.
Their last album came out in 2015. They’re currently doing a lot of touring right now, and have recently set up a GoFundMe account set up for their new record. The reached their goal already, but if they set up a stretch goal, I’d be down to put 5 on it.
