Dozens of trade unionists invaded the offices of US-based investment firm BlackRock in protest against Emmanuel Macron’s pension reforms on Thursday. Members of the railway workers’ union set off firecrackers in the atrium of the Centorial building, near the capital’s Grands Boulevards, filling it with smoke. One protester said the building was targeted because of BlackRock’s private pension fund activity, in light of its investment in firms that harm the environment, such as oil companies. The BlackRock chairman has also historically been accused of lobbying to break the French pension model, according to the European Parliament.
