Dana Point, CA – The third and final day of Ohana Festival brought a crowd-pleasing performance from Dr. Dog, whose eager fans showed up in droves. Dr. Dog usually tours the festival circuit, so it was no wonder to see them filling out the already strong Sunday lineup.
The Philadelphia folk rock group, made up of Toby Leaman, Scott McMicken, Frank McElroy, Zach Miller and Eric Slick, has released nine studio albums since they formed in 1999, plus numerous EPs, complications and a live album. With its brand of soulful indie rock, their daytime performance was an exciting display of versatile rock ‘n’ roll showmanship, guitar riffs, and perfect vocal harmonies.
Their set included fan favorites such as, “Broken Heart,” “Shadow People,” “The Beach,” and “How Long Must I Wait?” They played a multitude of tracks from their albums, “Be the Void,” “B-Room,” “The Psychedelic Swamp” and their newest album, “Abandoned Mansion,” which included, “Survive,” and “Jim Song,” an honest take on love and heartbreak. They closed out their set with an energetic cover of Architecture in Helsinki’s, “Heart It Races.” Dr. Dog’s reinterpreted version of the track was a beautifully bouncy ender that was so infectious it left the audience rapt, soaking in the good vibes.
