AUSTIN, TX- For most of our SXSW artist coverage, we’ll keep it relatively short and sweet. We have over 80 artists to cover, so cut us some slack! 😉 We’ll basically be formatting each post into two parts: (1) Why our contributor wanted to see this act and (2) what our contributor thought of the performance”. Easy peasy. If you want to learn more about the act, make sure you click through to their social media links to get in the know. You won’t be disappointed!

Why I Wanted To See Devon Gilfillian: Hard hitting blues/soul rock always satisfies my soul, and when I heard Devon Gilfillian’s “Trouble Maker” I made it a point check out at least one of his performances at SXSW.
What I Thought Of Devon Gilfillian’s Performance: I had pencilled in two chances to see Devon perform live while in, or around, Austin during the week I was in Texas for SXSW. The day before, I was at Luck Reunion, but Devon’s performance conflicted with another performance that I had already committed myself to.
“No worries,” I though to myself, because he was also scheduled to perform as an opener for Keith Urban’s performance the following day. Well … because Keith’s management wouldn’t let writer’s with photography gear remain in the venue during performances, I only was able to catch 3 of Devon’s songs, spending that time focused more on getting in-focus photos than the music itself.
It goes without saying that I missed out on the chance to really invest myself in the gospel-blues and souther soul that so many critics are keen on. Well … I suppose I’ll just have to wait until he brings his show to Los Angeles.
