WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA- Destiny Rogers is not your typical pop star. Hailing from Lodi, California, she’s carved out a unique niche for herself in the music world, blending pop, R&B, and urban elements with a cool, laid-back vibe that’s as refreshing as a summer breeze. Rogers first caught the industry’s attention with her 2019 debut single, “Tomboy,” a track that encapsulates her effortlessly cool persona and knack for relatable storytelling. Since then, she’s steadily built a following, thanks to her genre-blurring sound and introspective lyrics. But for someone who’s been on my radar, this was my first time catching her live, and let me tell you, it was worth every minute.
I’ll admit, I was on the fence about whether to catch her set. The daylight was prime for atmosphere shots, and I had a main review to consider. But then, two things happened: a fellow photographer, Daniel Macadangdang, professed that this would be an act I shouldn’t miss out on, and a nudge from her publicist—someone I know has impeccable taste—tipped the scales. Sometimes, it’s those last-minute decisions that lead to the most memorable experiences. This was one of those times.
As Rogers took the stage, it quickly became clear that she was the real deal. Her set was a masterclass in how to blend pop sensibilities with urban edge, creating a vibe that felt both fresh and familiar. Tracks like “Tomboy” and “Make Up” got the crowd grooving, but it was when she went acoustic that Rogers truly shined. Her cover of SZA’s “Nobody Gets Me” was a standout moment—stripped down, raw, and deeply personal. It was a reminder that beneath the cool exterior is an artist with a lot to say and the talent to back it up.
The two co-signs proved right: Destiny Rogers has talent in tow. Her live performance not only met but exceeded expectations, leaving no doubt that she’s well on her way to blazing her own trail. If you haven’t seen her live yet, do yourself a favor—you won’t be disappointed.
