NEW YORK, NY – After a five-year hiatus from performing, Cyn made her debut headline performance at Mercury Lounge Wednesday night—one of New York City’s premier venues for discovering indie and emerging artists. Though she hadn’t graced the stage in some time, Cyn never stopped creating and releasing new music. In the interim, she embarked on a transformative chapter of her life, stepping into marriage and, more recently, welcoming the birth of her first child. Balancing motherhood with her artistic pursuits, Cyn has spent the past few years refining her sound while embracing the joys and challenges of raising a family. Wednesday night’s performance marked not only her official return to the stage but also a moment of celebration for a new era of her artistry—one shaped by deeper emotional resonance and life experience.

Mercury Lounge was the perfect setting for her reintroduction. With its simple, no-frills presentation, the show felt intimate, and every corner of the venue offered a great view, accompanied by crystal-clear sound.

Cyn opened her set with her fun, high-energy pop tracks like “I Don’t Care” and “Drinks.” She dazzled in a gorgeous and eye-catching light blue shawl jacket with a fresh cut and a full-length bodysuit. It was an awesome look—an authentic, tangible representation of her music—that commanded attention and showcased her bubbly stage presence. The setlist was thoughtfully curated for the setting, filled with loyal fans and close personal friends as Cyn officially made her comeback to the stage. Upon looking at all the faces in the intimate crowd, it was evident that Cyn was dearly missed by her fans and that there had been a thirst for her long-awaited return.

Like any great pop artist, Cyn masterfully balances infectious, upbeat tracks with tender, heartfelt songs that truly tug at the heartstrings. She pulled out emotional tracks like “Hard to Love” and “Growing Up,” both of which felt even more poignant given her personal evolution. Now a mother, her connection to these songs carried an extra layer of depth, something she acknowledged between songs with a mix of heartfelt sincerity and her signature humor. Even when she performed pantless, it didn’t detract from the deep emotional connection of these songs—something Cyn joked about, effortlessly keeping the crowd engaged.

The night wasn’t just about nostalgia; it was about celebrating Cyn’s growth. She radiated confidence, her vocals soaring effortlessly over each track, and the audience hung onto every note. At times, the crowd sang along so loudly it nearly drowned out the music, creating a palpable sense of unity between artist and fans.

Cyn closed her exciting set with fan favorites like “I’ll Still Have Me” and, of course, “The Smiths.” Closing with “The Smiths” was the only way to send both Cyn and the venue off—the entire venue was dancing and headbanging—a full-on dance party. Fans spilled into the streets afterward still buzzing with energy, recounting their favorite moments and already making plans for her next show.

Her return isn’t just a comeback—it’s a statement. As an artist, wife, and mother, Cyn is embracing all facets of her identity and channeling them into her music. With her full-length debut album, Valley Girl, available everywhere, and a hometown show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on January 23rd, 2025, it’s clear that Cyn’s next chapter is just beginning—and her fans couldn’t be more ready.
