Los Angeles, CA- Los Angeles based (via St. Louis) singer songwriter Cory Becker performed at The Sanctuary at Pico-Union opening for Sean Rowe on July 7, 2017. Having just released his latest album (which I’m assuming was his debut as I couldn’t find very much information about him online), he passionately sang a set of contemplative and heartfelt folk melodies that resonated throughout the church rafters.

Insofar as this was the first time I had heard his music, I focused on how his sounds (attention to lyrics would have to come later) effected my mood and the mood of the room. There was a palpable sense of longing in his music, and attendees seemed to be intently listening to every word that came out of his mouth. Though there was a bar in the rear of the room, all idle chit-chat/bar-talk ceased while he sang.

Cory had a handful of limited vinyl pressings of his new album for sale after his performance, and so impressed with the sonics of his music (his melodies and his voice), I decided to purchase a copy. Now, I’ll have to spend some time listening to his words.
