LOS ANGELES, CA- Biffy Clyro have always been a band that straddles extremes—raw emotion and intricate musicianship, arena-ready choruses and personal lyrics that feel like journal entries. Their new single, “A Little Love,” carries on that legacy with the kind of anthemic sincerity that made so many of us believers in the first place.
For longtime fans, this new track is a welcome reminder of what the Scottish trio does best: sculpting complex feelings into giant, shout-it-from-the-rooftop refrains. The verses are a punch to the gut—lyrics like “I can’t divorce you, you put me through hell” and “Can somebody help me? I can’t do this on my own” are delivered with a heavy sense of disillusionment. But just when it feels like the weight might be too much to bear, Biffy flip the emotional table with that triumphant chorus: “With a little love, if you want it, we can conquer it all.” It’s defiant. It’s hopeful. It’s classic Biffy.
Having followed the band since their 2013 double album Opposites, I was sure—after seeing them absolutely obliterate the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles in 2014—that they were going to be the next big European rock export to blow up in the U.S. After all, they were already headlining festivals and selling out arenas the size of Crypto.com Arena back home in the UK. While that massive American breakout hasn’t quite happened, they’ve maintained a fiercely loyal fanbase stateside. Count me among them.
What continues to impress is Biffy’s refusal to chase trends. “A Little Love,” produced with longtime collaborator Jonathan Gilmore, doesn’t sound like a band trying to retrofit themselves for TikTok or algorithmic approval. Instead, it’s an emotionally rich, melodically muscular rock song that feels like it could’ve been on Only Revolutions or Ellipsis—just as full of fire and feeling as ever.
The lyrics hit that Biffy sweet spot: part breakup confession, part existential reckoning, part call to arms. “I forgive all the things that you said, not the things that you’ve done,” Simon Neil sings with weary acceptance. And yet, in the same breath, there’s the refusal to give up on connection: “With a little love, just for everyone.”
The accompanying video, directed by Piers Dennis and choreographed by Steven Hoggett, is a visual extension of that ethos—highlighting the physical and emotional connection between bandmates Simon, James, and Ben, who’ve been together since they were 15. Inspired by Marina Abramović’s 1977 piece Relation In Time, it’s a performance art gesture that underlines the theme of unity, not just in relationships, but in enduring creative collaboration.
In a world flooded with irony and detachment, Biffy Clyro continue to stand tall for something purer: feeling things—big, loud, complicated feelings—and pushing through them with a little love. This is the kind of rock music we need more of. Earnest, emotionally complex, sonically thrilling.
It may still be a while before American audiences fully catch on. But for those of us already tuned in, “A Little Love” is another reminder of why we’ve been riding with Biffy all along. MON THE BIFF!
