BROOKLYN, NY – Finneas returned to Brooklyn for his official For Cryin’ Out Loud! World Tour, and I was lucky enough to attend his intimate album release concert at Brooklyn Warsaw back in October 2024. Tonight, I had the privilege of seeing him perform again—this time in a full-length production that was even bigger and more breathtaking, held at the historic Brooklyn Paramount. Finneas has completely shattered any notion of a sophomore slump with “For Cryin’ Out Loud!”, proving once again that his artistry is boundless. Selling out both consecutive nights, he made his headlining performance truly unforgettable.

With opening support from BAD SUNS, the venue quickly reached capacity as soon as their set kicked off. The alternative rock band was clearly touched to discover that a significant portion of the front crowd were longtime BAD SUNS fans. Their contagious energy and connection with the audience set the stage perfectly, amping up the excitement in anticipation of the headliner, Finneas. Each song felt like a burst of nostalgia, their polished yet raw performance a reminder of why they’ve remained a staple in the alt-rock scene.

In an ambitious and playful move, BAD SUNS attempted an almost impossible experiment—asking the crowd to play their latest single at the exact same time on Spotify on everyone’s phones, hoping to fill the venue’s acoustics with the track. While it didn’t quite work out, the attempt was a clever and exciting way to promote their newest release, “Communicating, which is available now everywhere. Even without the synchronization they had envisioned, the stunt left fans buzzing, their excitement carrying into the next set. Be sure to check it out!

As the lights dimmed, a single spotlight illuminated the keyboard, and Finneas made his entrance—alone on stage, seated at the piano. He kicked off his flawless set with the raw and brutally honest ballad “Starfucker*”, instantly drawing the crowd into a wave of emotions as everyone screamed the lyrics in unison. For a brief moment, it felt as if the entire venue was holding its breath, caught in the gravity of his words. The show opened with some of the most exciting and fan-favorite tracks from the latest album, including “Cleats” and *”Sweet Cherries*”, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. Finneas ignited the crowd with high energy, transforming the evening into a massive dance party.

In my opinion, the setlist could be perfectly grouped into different categories, taking the audience on a journey through various Finneas eras while highlighting his vocal range and ever-evolving musicality. As mentioned, we started strong with fan favorites from the latest album before transitioning into deep cuts for day-one fans—tracks like “Angel”, “The Kids Are All Dying”, “A Concert Six Months From Now”, and “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa”. It was nothing short of exhilarating to hear the crowd erupt every single time the intro to one of these tracks began. You could feel the energy shift as the audience realized they were about to hear a song that rarely makes its way into Finneas’ live sets. The sheer joy in the room was contagious, a testament to how deeply these songs resonated with longtime listeners. It was a truly special moment and a testament to the uniqueness of the setlist.

Next, we moved into the cover section of the set. While not a traditional cover but more of a duet, Finneas performed “‘Til Forever Falls Apart” with raw emotion. Even without his usual counterpart, Ashe, he was joined by fellow band member Lucy Healy, whose presence brought a fresh dynamic to the performance. Their harmonies melted into one another seamlessly, a beautiful contrast of strength and vulnerability. In addition, Finneas recently covered The Zombies’ “Time of the Season for Triple J’s Like a Version YouTube series, and it was met with overwhelming praise from fans online. Now, adding it to his tour setlist, the Brooklyn crowd was treated to a live rendition of this classic. There was something almost hypnotic about the way he breathed new life into the song, keeping the essence of the original while making it distinctly his own.

The final portion of the show could easily be categorized as the “Top 10 Picks”—and rightfully so. Finneas dedicated the nostalgic “Family Feud” to his sister Billie, followed by the hauntingly beautiful ballads “I Lost a Friend” and “Break My Heart Again”. Each note hung in the air like a confession, his voice carrying a weight that had the entire room spellbound. He closed the night with his two top singles, which are on relentless repeat for me—”Let’s Fall In Love For the Night” and “For Cryin’ Out Loud”—leaving the crowd on an unforgettable high.

As the final chorus of “For Cryin’ Out Loud” rang through the venue, the energy hit a fever pitch—fans jumping, voices straining, arms raised in complete surrender to the music. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a communal experience, the kind that lingers long after the last note fades.
