Robinson Keeps Single Streak Going On New Collaboration With Corsak

AUSTIN, TX- I’m typically confident when I pick bands to see/hear at a music festival, but when I see friends whose musical taste is beyond reproach in the crowd as well, I know that I’ve picked a guaranteed winner. That was the case when I saw Robinson perform at SXSW.

I didn’t know too much about Robinson prior to her taking the stage at the Empire Garage for Neon Gold Record’s showcase other than she hails from New Zealand and that her single “Nothing To Regret” had amassed a ridiculous number of streams in a matter of days (as of today, it currently has 74MM streams on Spotify). But when I saw a “concert buddy” from Los Angeles in this crowd in Austin, I had a feeling that I would be blown away, and blown away I was.

At only 21, Anna Robinson has released a series of singles that are pure pop confections. Her pristine soprano voices and her ability to craft catchy, and substantive, lyrical hooks are the perfect tools keep her streak hit streak going. Since SXSW, she has release a couple more singles including her most recent collaboration, “GLOW”, with the first Chinese Artist to be signed to Liquid State, Corsak. It’s a song that’s drenched with emotional longing, and ebbs and flows in intensity.

For this SXSW performance, Robinson was pitch perfect. From her uptempo dance tracks to her more restrained ballad, her voice soared. The emotionality that she injected into her music through simple hand gestures gave her music an added depth that I truly appreciated.

At times I thought that her performance would get lost a bit on the large stage. Without being immediately surrounded by her bandmates (a drummer and a keyboardist were positioned waaaaay upstage), Anna looked rather petit on stage. But then her music blared through the house speakers, you realized that this young lady’s music is big enough to fill out a venues ten times larger than this one.
