Nick & Navi Bring The Riddims To The Bootleg For Girlschool THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: NICK & NAVI @ GIRLSCHOOL 2/3/18
LOS ANGELES, CA- Nick & Navi are singer/ songwriting twins from the South Side of Chicago, and their performance at Girlschool was filled with the kind of energy and spirit that can get even the most stubborn wall flower up from their seat to shake a tail-feather.
Their family is from Jamaica, and they fully embrace the Island’s musical influence as their music is soaked with dancehall sonics. Their soulful flows give their songs a real sense of life, creating a style that feels, and sounds fresh and new.
But what really stood out from their performance was that spirit and energy that I mentioned above. These sisters sing and dance on stage with such a carefree exuberance it’s infectious. The matching wide-legged jumpers they wore flowed with every move they made giving even inanimate objects life through their music. I was thoroughly entertained with their half hour performance, and I certainly wouldn’t have minded if the had played a little longer.
In doing a little bit of sleuthing on the internet, I learned that their love for Jamaica is not only evident in their music, but also in their action. The spend a lot of their time contributing to non-profit organizations in Jamaica which support performing arts and educational programs. These sisters are positive role models who create fantastic party music. I’m fully onboard to support them and their third musical project which they plan on releasing this year.
