Los Angeles, CA- With new bands releasing new music everyday, it can be quite a task keeping an ear to the streets for bands/recordings artists that are really worth a listen. Thankfully, most of my music peers have good taste in music.

For the past couple of months, I’d seen the name “Lauren Ruth Ward” pop up in my various social media feeds. Friends had been raving about this singer’s fierceness on stage, and how she sang with an untamed abandon. I got the chance to check it all out for myself when she opened for The Weeks at The Roxy 5/9/17. This gal’s no joke.

Playing a “stripped down” set with only her guitarist accompanying her, the lack of a sonic backing only seemed to spotlight Lauren’s unrelenting ferociousness on stage. Though diminutive in stature, she was able to fill the room with her energy. It was apparent that even those who weren’t there to see her specifically perform, like myself, were drawn to her animal magnetism.

Lauren Ruth Ward oozes Rock & Roll. Listening to her sing got me to feel the kind of wide-eyed exuberance I got when I heard my first Janis Joplin record. There’s so much passion when she sings live, it’s virtually impossible to resist that kind of charisma.  She’s only got one EP under her belt, and sure … she’s got plenty of time to keep on growing her repertoire, but I’ll be hopping on the band-wagon to make sure I don’t miss out on what she’s got coming next.
