At Stockholm, CA, I saw Elliphant perform first. This would be my 7th time seeing her in concert. I guess you can call me a fan. LOL.
Her raw energy, and power are addicting, and it’s what keeps bringing me back to her shows. Elli is a powerhouse … Every. Damn. Time. She presents music as diverse and complex as she is. Attending her shows have become a routine for me, not in the sense that her sets have dulled- quite the contrary, but more in the sense that it feels like I’m visiting an old friend for a beer. At this point, she can even recognize me in the crowd. I only hope she views it herself as “seeing an old friend for a beer” too, rather than me coming off as creepy.
She put on another great performance with her DJ, Pelle, throwing down most of her hits, including “Revolusion”, “Only Getting Younger”, “One More”, and “Love Me Badder” from her new album, “Living Life Golden”. She had the early afternoon crowd eating out of the palm of her hand, vibing to her upbeat sonics and her fiercely confident swagger. Even Swedish, and international, film star, Noomi Rapace had her fist in the air screaming, “Revolusion” during the performance!
Elli closed her set with one of her original songs, “Ketchup”, that was produced in Sweden. It is a song that helped kickstart her career in music, and she joked that it was a shameless plug from her first album that was never commercially released. Elli always keeps it real, and wrapped it up by subsequently showing her love and genuine nature by saying:
“If you look up at the moon, I’m looking at the same one. That way, you know you are with me”.
I was fortunate enough to speak with Elli briefly after her performance and asked about the possibility of a new album soon. Pausing for just a moment, she explained that what she seeks is quality over quantity, and that music, for her, cannot be rushed. I, for one, cannot wait!
