“….Opening for Marina was Allie X, an independent artist who knows a thing or two about changing things up. Each time I have seen Allie X perform, this “goth-pop” artist is always revamping and experimenting with her style and image. Her music is also ever-changing, and her latest single, “Fresh Laundry”, shows her exploring a more minimalist approach to music. It’s still a lush sound, but a lot of the electronics sonics, like that which can be found her hit singles like “Paper Love” is noticeably toned down.
Each time I’ve seen Allie X perform live, she’s always been dressed to the nines in an extravagant ensemble. For this performance, however, her outward appearance seemed toned down, wearing her hair down naturally and wearing a plaid smock dress and women’s oxfords. Her music, however, was anything but toned down.
After opening her performance with her hit “Bitch” she proceeds to perform a fierce song that I hadn’t heard before. She introduced herself to the audience after that second song, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to open for Marina, and qualified her introduction by saying that she wasn’t going to talk much because she wanted to perform a bunch of new music. She performed known peices like “Paper Love”, “Fresh Laundry,” “Science” and conclude her set with “Casanova”, but there were at least three more “new” songs that she graced the audience with, and she slew with each of them…”
