A Chef Turned Rocker Impresses With His Grungy FriendlyBear Check out Photos of FriendlyBear at The Satellite 1/11/19!
LOS ANGELES, CA- Another new band that impressed me opening up for Broken Baby at The Satellite was FriendlyBear. This trio of Guy Wiener (guitar/lead vocals), Adam Bones (bass/backing vocals) Megan Granger (drums) transported me to my high school days, when Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Dinosaur Jr and Mudhoney were getting heavy spins in my Discman … do Discmans still exist? Hell, the band’s lead singer, with his flannel shirt and overgrown beard, even looked the part.
I was surprised that I hadn’t heard of this band before, but I figured that I could just look them up online and get caught up with the music of this new band that I had just “discovered”. Well, as it turns out they’re so new there isn’t any recorded music up on the interwebs right now.
I just happened to catch Guy a few nights later at a Bands In A Barbershop showcase, and we got to talking. That’s when I learned that he’s actually a professional chef, and that he only recently started writing music. It was his way of taking a chance on something he’s always been passionate about, but never seriously considered until friends urged him to keep going. He enlisted his friends Adam and Megan (who I understand only recently learned to play drums for the band) to accompany him on his musical journey.
Well, it certainly sounds like the’ve got a pretty good thing going, and I’m keen to hear how they grow from here.
