LOS ANGELES, CA- Ever since I stumbled across a TikTok of Tiny Habits harmonizing on a snippet of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” I’ve been hooked. Their three-part harmonies were what drew me in first. Pure, tight, and emotionally effortless, it was instant sonic bliss. But as I kept following their musical journey online, it became clear that this trio wasn’t just good at singing together. They’re students of feeling.
Their new single “Either,” out now via Mom+Pop, is a perfect showcase of what makes them special: a gorgeously harmonized, deceptively simple pop-folk tune that doubles as a love letter to staying in. Co-written with Caroline Pennell (aka Carol Ades) and produced by Gabe Goodman and Benjamin Millman, the track taps intohttps://blurredculture.com/tiny-habits-either-is-a-sweet-slice-of-introvert-pop-and-i-cant-get-enough/?preview=true the ultra-relatable emotional tug-of-war between wanting to go out and desperately hoping someone gives you permission to bail.
“There’s a party tonight and I think that I might not be going,” opens the first verse, sung with that familiar hush that feels like it’s being delivered right into your ear. From there, it’s all about that sweet moment of mutual understanding when your best friend or your crush or someone who “gets it” says the magic words: “I don’t wanna go either.” That lyric alone brought a smile to my face.
“Either” is more than just cute… it’s playful ear candy for the socially hesitant. Lines like “Staying at home would be cheaper” and “TV’s on but nobody’s watching” feel like screen captures from our lives, while the outro spirals into a flurry of anxious questions that anyone with FOMO will recognize: What if I miss out? What if I regret this? What if the love of my life is there?
Still, despite the existential swirl, the tone stays warm and intimate, like a cozy night in with your favorite people. And in typical Tiny Habits fashion, the vocals carry the weight: soft, in sync, and emotionally resonant in a way that feels effortless.
The trio (Cinya Khan, Maya Rae, and Judah Mayowa) have already earned praise from the likes of Elton John, SZA, and Noah Kahan, and have toured with everyone from Gracie Abrams to Lizzy McAlpine. They’re set to open for James Taylor and Sarah McLachlan this year (a perfect pairing), but here’s hoping they book another solo show in L.A. soon. I ran into them once when they attended a show at The Fonda, but I’m still kicking myself that I haven’t seen them live yet.
If you’ve ever needed a song that feels like a blanket, a buddy, and a big sigh of relief, “Either” is it. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself hitting repeat while skipping that next party.
