LOS ANGELES, CA- Formed in 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida, Tedeschi Trucks Band was born from the union of two powerhouse musicians: Susan Tedeschi, a vocalist and guitarist whose smoky voice has long been steeped in blues and soul, and Derek Trucks, a slide-guitar prodigy who had already spent decades redefining blues rock through his solo work and time with The Allman Brothers Band. After touring together with the Soul Stew Revival, the pair merged their groups into a single, sprawling 12-piece ensemble.

From the start, the band established itself as a force. Their debut album Revelator (2011) won the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album, and subsequent releases like Made Up Mind (2013), Let Me Get By (2016), Signs (2019), and the ambitious four-part I Am the Moon (2022) have shown just how expansive their sound can be. With horns, gospel-inspired backing vocals, dual drummers, and free-flowing improvisation, Tedeschi Trucks Band blends blues, rock, gospel, and jazz into a style that feels both steeped in tradition and restlessly alive. They’ve built a reputation as one of the most electrifying live acts in the world — and on August 13th, they brought that firepower to Los Angeles.

The night opened with Whiskey Myers, who wasted no time filling the hillside with the thunder of southern rock grit and outlaw-country swagger. Heavy riffs, gritty vocals, and an unrelenting pulse carried through their set… the kind of red-blooded rock that shakes you in the chest and primes you for the communal experience that Tedeschi Trucks Band thrives on. By the time the last chord rang out, the crowd was buzzing, warmed and restless for what was to come.

When the 12-piece Tedeschi Trucks Band took the stage, led by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, the night shifted into something richer and more layered. They opened with “Crazy Cryin’” before moving into “Do I Look Worried” and “Who Am I,” a trio that showcased their balance of fiery guitar work, soulful vocals, and lush horn arrangements.

Tedeschi’s vocals remain a marvel: smoky, commanding, yet tender when she leans into a lyric. Derek Trucks’ slide guitar once again proved why he’s hailed as one of the finest players of his generation. Together, they presided over a band that makes genre distinctions irrelevant: blues bled into rock, gospel into jazz, soul into jam-band freedom.

What makes a TTB set particularly compelling is how they reinterpret the music that shaped them. Their cover of Prince’s “D.M.S.R.” shimmered with funk energy, stretching the song into something both reverent and freshly alive. Later, Derek Trucks dug into his Derek & the Dominos roots with “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?,” songs that carried an almost spiritual resonance given his history performing Layla Revisited.

“Midnight in Harlem,” one of the band’s most beloved originals, was a peak moment. It was a slow, expansive meditation that had the crowd swaying under the night sky.

Just when it seemed the evening had hit its emotional peak, Doyle Bramhall II emerged as a special guest. Together, they tore through Elmore James’ “The Sky Is Crying,” Trucks’ slide lines crying and wailing with raw urgency, before closing with a triumphant take on The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends.” It was less a song than a mission statement: music as communion, as shared language, as celebration.

Beyond the night itself, this stop on the Live in ’25 tour carried a weightier context. Tedeschi Trucks Band were preparing for there latest album Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited (LIVE AT LOCKN’) which was release on 9/12/25, their tribute to Joe Cocker and Leon Russell’s legendary 1970 tour. That history… a sprawling, chaotic, soulful celebration of American music… is embedded in what TTB do on stage every night. At The Greek, you could feel that lineage: the sense of music as something larger than any single band or song, something deeply communal and timeless.

Tedeschi Trucks Band create living history. On this August night in Los Angeles, they reminded us why fans keep returning again and again: because every performance is singular, every setlist is new, and every show is a reminder that music at its best is an act of connection.
