LOS ANGELES, CA- Singer-songwriter sisters SkyeChristy (try repeating that a few times fast!) celebrate the release of their debut EP The Summer I Lost My Lover via Warner Records. The duo consists of siblings Georgia Christy Edwards and Sophie Skye Edwards, who, only two years apart in age, have shared a passion for music since youth. Together, SkyeChristy explores growing pains, heartache, and nostalgic themes of girlhood over acoustic arpeggios and R&B reminiscent instrumentals.

Teia: In three words or less, what does ‘The Summer I Lost My Lover’ represent to you both?

SkyeChristy: A time capsule.

The EP’s lofi production quality brings the duo’s hauntingly sweet harmonies to the foreground of each track, inviting listeners to focus on Georgia and Sophie’s outstanding vocal abilities. Their complementary voices stir together like rich milk and honey, somehow delicately and confidently at once.

In “Family Barbeque”, you touch on both personal and familial tensions. What’s it like working together as sisters? Is it ever hard to maintain a diplomatic creative process?

Us working together has always come naturally to us honestly. Sometimes Georgia takes the lead and sometimes Sophie takes the lead. We’re always writing about something that’s actually going on in our lives, so we’ll bring whatever idea we have to each other and we’ll help each other say what we want to say. We are also extremely honest with each other, which we think helps us in the writing. Sometimes it’s an emotional process for just one of us, or it is both of us. I think our process is mainly about having compassion for each other.

It runs in the family: the Los Angeles natives come from a family of musicians, leading them to become immersed in their craft early on in life. Georgia and Sophie have honed their vocal abilities together over several years through both choir and home practices. By high school, Georgia and Sophie were writing and recording their own original songs.

Who are some artists that inspire you musically?

We both LOVE Mac Miller, as well as Lana Del Rey, Omar Apollo, Dijon, and Sarah Kinsley. Mac Miller is definitely our number one inspiration, as we both try to emulate his honesty in our own music.

Where are you when you’re not in the studio or performing?

When we’re not working, we’re normally spending time with our friends in LA. We share the same friend group, so we spend most of our time together. It’s also summer so we go to the beach a lot (listen to: “Beach Zombies”), and just detox by  listening to our favorite music. When you’re an artist, sometimes you find yourself  listening to your own music ALOT. Sometimes we just need to take a breather and get some perspective. We do that by listening to other artists who inspire us.
